Founded in 2015, TrailFest - Scotland’s Trailrunning Community - has been providing regular social trailrunning experiences for new and experienced trailrunners in the Glasgow area since 2016. In 2018, a series of three summer races were added into their annual programme, selling out in the first year and growing rapidly in 2019.  

Following a rapid expansion of TrailFest’s run programme and run leader team in 2018/19, TrailFest now hosts an average of 3 social runs per week in the Glasgow area, all year round. Every social run is professionally organised, fully insured and led by qualified run leaders, who place the emphasis firmly on enjoyment rather than speed. Proud to be a ‘community, not a running club’, the social running programme is designed to support runners to discover new routes, develop new competencies (night running, technical trail running, mountain running, etc) and meet likeminded friends as they continue their journey into the sport of trailrunning. 

As a cofounder of TrailFest and a former run leader, in August 2019 I was delighted to facilitate the brand’s first Team Development Day. Bringing together a team of 11 new and experienced run leaders for teambuilding, training and forward planning, I designed an afternoon programme that combined practical ‘trail training’, role play and knowledge sharing, with teambuilding, brainstorming and brand development activities. Social, informal yet informative, the emphasis was on developing a shared appreciation of the TrailFest brand values – both in theory, and in practice – and empowering run leaders to co-create a forward events programme that reflects their own strengths and passions, enabling them to play an engaged and active role in the development and future of TrailFest’s community-centric business model.
